Depression & Mood Disorder Treatment in Silver Spring, MD
Individualized therapy for depression and mood-related symptoms in adolescents, young adults, and adults — including presentations that co-occur with ADHD.
What Is Depression Treatment?
Depression treatment is psychotherapy focused on understanding what is driving the loss of motivation or emotional flatness that a patient is experiencing — and building the thought patterns, behavioral routines, and support structures that make daily life feel more livable. At B.L. Meader LCSW-C Therapy, depression is treated both as a standalone concern and as a frequent companion to ADHD, anxiety, life transitions, and long-standing patterns of self-criticism.
Our Approach
Briana’s approach to depression treatment starts with a real conversation about what is driving the mood symptoms. Some depressions are situational — tied to loss, transition, or a chronic stressor. Others are long-standing and rooted in entrenched thinking patterns or undiagnosed co-occurring conditions like ADHD. The treatment plan follows the cause.
Common components include CBT-based work to shift unhelpful thought patterns, behavioral activation to rebuild daily structure and routines, DBT skills (integrated into individual sessions, not offered as a group) for emotional regulation, and coordination with prescribing providers when medication management is part of the plan.

Who Benefits from Depression Treatment?
Depression therapy helps patients whose lack of motivation or emotional heaviness have moved from passing to persistent, especially if it interferes with school, work, relationships, or basic daily functioning. Briana is particularly experienced with clients whose depression co-occurs with ADHD, autism, or anxiety, and with adolescents and young adults whose depressive symptoms emerge during periods of significant change. She treats adolescents ages 13 and up and adults up to age 70.
